Coast to Coast Cycle Ride for MS Research:
This event is organised by two individuals:
Julina Halliday is cycling coast to coast with her friend Carole Smithies to raise money for MS Research. The ride is approx 200 miles long (probably more as they're sure to get lost)! It is classified as a challenging cycling across open hilly country mainly on quiet roads and country lanes. They are setting off from Walney Island on the North West coast in the county of Cumbria on 19th April, and will arrive in Whitby on the north east coast in the county of North Yorkshire on 24th April. They will be stopping en route at
Newton, Docker, Swaledale (at the highest public house in Britain at 1,732ft above sea level; so that'll be a climb and there is a ghost in the pub!), Mount St George and Ainthorpe.
Her mother has had MS for about 15 years and her Dad is her carer. Although she is very poorly and severely disabled she never complains. When Julina told her about the cycle ride and asked if there are any charities or organisations she'd like her to raise money for, she had no hesitation in suggesting MS Research.
So Carole and Julina, with the support of Julina's Mum and Dad, intend to raise as much money as possible for an excellent cause, while having fun and keeping fit at the same time. Their route is going to be slightly off so they can stay at a couple of friends' houses to avoid B&B costs. They are intrepid and generous with their efforts and we are immensely grateful of their dedication!
