Research on falls and injuries wins prize!

Congratulations to Angela Davies Smith whose poster on balance falls and injuries was highly commended at a recent national MS conference.

This study typifies the need for a more integrated approach to researching and treating MS. One of the most striking findings of this study was that the rate of falls and injuries was universally high regardless of whether or not those who fell were currently receiving physiotherapy or other treatment. The general problem of balance and mobility remains one of our foremost research topics and we shortly hope to be able to test new body worn devices that will predict risk of falling. In the New Year we will also be initiating a treatment and discussion group for those who have MS and those who treat MS to exchange views and ideas about avoiding falls and improving mobility. It was awarded a “highly commended” MS Trust 2004 Annual Conference Poster Prize
