World Record Attempt!
Longest Badminton Marathon Doubles for MS Research
We are delighted to announce that Andrew
Heygate-Browne, President of the University of the West of
England's (UWE) SU Badminton Club and his team, are
going for a World
Record attempt on 2nd and 3rd June 2007,
and raising funds for MS Research!
The current world record for the longest badminton doubles is 24 hours, 21 minutes and 19 seconds, held by Sylvia Campion, Aubrey Cox, Maureen Dunne and William Stevenson, of Ireland, set in December 2005.
The attempt is taking place at
UWE's recently opened Centre for Sports, Frenchay Campus,
Coldharbour Lane, Bristol. Guinness have approved the event and
provided the regulations. The regulations are that; the participants have to
have a 5 minute break every hour, but this can be saved, i.e.: if they play for
3 hours they can take a 15 minute break. A fully qualified practicing member of
the medical profession must be present at all times but must alternate or
rotate in four hour shifts. The attempt should also be overseen by suitable
stewards, who, like the medical team, must rotate in 4 hour shifts.
Two independent witnesses must also be present at all times, again, rotating in four hour shifts. These witnesses must also have “standing” in the local community, such as mayors, councillors, police officers, etc and must sign a statement verifying rules have been followed and how the record is quantified.
If you would like to be part of this
event, in any of the above areas, or would like further information, please
contact us on

as soon as possible. If you would like to sponsor
Andrew and the team at UWE, please contact the Fundraising Team for a sponsor

The team are very excited about the attempt and I'm sure
you'll join us in wishing them the very best of luck!
