Tremor and MS:
Relatively few people with MS suffer from intention tremor usually experienced as loss of control of arm movement while reaching out to grasp as object or carry out fine hand movements such as doing up buttons or turning a key in a lock.
However, when it is a prominent feature it can lead to significant levels of dependence on others to help with everyday tasks such as brushing teeth, combing hair, eating etc.
There is no effective treatment for tremor and it is difficult to control and measure. Current research is aimed at producing a good quality measurement system to quantify the movement and the tremor that accompanies it and to help design a means of controlling the arm so as to improve movements and function.
